PNG is useful when an application requires PNG input or when you want subsequent saves and edits to avoid additional lossy compression.

Converting an existing JPG to PNG does not restore detail already removed by JPG compression and does not automatically create transparency.

PNG stores the decoded JPG pixels losslessly, so the PNG is often larger than the original JPG even though it does not contain more visual detail.

The output is newly encoded without the JPG source metadata, including EXIF location and camera information.
