How to blur or redact an image

Choose an image, drag a rectangle over something you want to hide, and repeat for any additional areas. Click an existing region to select it and change its effect or strength.

01

Choose an image

Open a photo or screenshot. It stays on your device throughout the edit.

02

Draw over details

Select blur, pixelate, or redact, then drag over each plate, face, address, or other detail.

03

Review and download

Check every region at full preview size, choose an output format, and save the edited copy.

Blur, pixelate, or redact?

Blur softens an area and looks natural in photos. Pixelate replaces detail with large blocks. Redact covers the selected pixels with a solid color.

Use solid redaction for passwords, account numbers, identity documents, and other highly sensitive information. Visual blur is useful for casual privacy, but it should not be treated as irreversible data removal.

Privacy and limitations

The image is decoded, edited, and exported locally by your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Exporting creates a new image without the source file's EXIF or GPS metadata.

The tool uses rectangular regions and handles one still image at a time. Animated images export the displayed frame. Always inspect the downloaded result before sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Your image is processed locally in your browser and is never sent to our server.

Can I blur more than one area?

Yes. Draw as many rectangular regions as needed, and choose a different effect for each region.

Should I blur or redact sensitive information?

Solid redaction is the safest choice for highly sensitive information. Blur and pixelation visually obscure details but may leave recognizable patterns.

Which image formats can I use?

You can open formats your browser can decode and export the result as JPG, PNG, or WebP.

Does the exported image retain metadata?

No. The browser creates a new image from the visible pixels, so source metadata such as camera and GPS information is not copied.
